The ePropulsion eLite electric outboard has won the Engine & Outboards category at the inaugural Sailors’ Choice Awards, with the result announced at the Southampton International Boat Show.
Organised by Practical Boat Owner and Yachting Monthly and sponsored by Haven Knox Johnston, the awards drew nominations from sailors and boat owners. Winners were then selected by public vote.
The eLite packages its motor, battery and controls into a compact unit intended as an alternative to small petrol outboards. According to ePropulsion, it weighs 6.7 kg and uses a direct-drive motor rated at 500 W nominal power, with up to 750 W available in Sport Mode.
Its integrated 378 Wh lithium battery removes the need for a separate battery, while a folding tiller is intended to simplify carrying and storage. The company positions the outboard for tenders, dinghies and other small craft.
Danny Tao, ePropulsion’s co-founder and CEO, welcomed the recognition from boat users, saying the product was developed to make electric propulsion simple, practical and accessible.
