A 15-metre electric workboat built to operate in the Port of Ravenna has been launched in Ravenna, Italy. Named Ravenna Futura, the vessel combines battery-electric propulsion with twin Castoldi TD 284 EVT waterjets.

Its onboard energy system incorporates lithium and lead battery packs integrated with photovoltaic solar panels. Electric motors drive the waterjets, with no exhaust emissions during operation. The source does not specify battery capacity, motor power, charging arrangements or operating range.

For harbour work, Castoldi highlights precise steering and immediate thrust response as advantages when manoeuvring in confined spaces, including ports and canals. The waterjets have no exposed propellers, a feature intended to reduce risks to marine life in shallow waters and sensitive natural areas.

Castoldi CEO Giacomo Castoldi presented the project as an example of waterjet propulsion’s role in electric boating, emphasising the importance of making efficient use of onboard electrical energy. No performance or efficiency measurements were provided.

The launch follows Castoldi’s introduction of the Turbodrive 340 H.C.T., which the manufacturer says completed a multiyear renewal of its production waterjet range. Founded in 1962, the Italian company reports more than 40,000 waterjet installations worldwide.
